TXL301: Beginning Sewing - Tote Bag

You've taken the Basic Sewing Machine Safety and Basic Use (SBU) class. What's next? Go green with your own grocery bags!

Make this grocery/tote bag and become one with the sewing machine. Learn what it takes to make seams that won't fall out in the wash or during use. Use several functional stitches, learn how to set them up and when to use them.

In this class, we will discuss how to change the size, add pockets, change positioning of handles and reinforce the bag and handles. Participants who have taken the Serger SBU will serge seams when appropriate and learn how to tell when to sew and when to serge.

This is a simple project in a short time span that's packed with juicy knowledge and class time on the machine to slingshot the beginning sewer/maker onto creating bigger, better, more customized fabric items.

In this second in a series of Textile Project classes, come, sew and socialize with others who like to sew and share ideas and skills! The two-hour class includes time afterwards to finish your project, socialize, experiment and ask questions of the instructor and classmates. As with most projects that allow for individual customizing, it's not expected that you will completely finish the project during the class, so, the time afterwards will give you more time to sew!

Prerequisite: Successful completion of TXL101: Basic Sewing Machine SBU.
