TXL1225: Advanced Sewing: Make a Knit Shirt

In this advanced sewing class, you'll venture into the wild world of knit fabrics. Remember how the other advanced sewing classes you've taken have expressly banned knit fabrics? This workshop will teach you all the techniques you need to take the trickiness right out of working with these notoriously difficult fabrics. You'll also learn how to translate your own body measurements into a simple shirt pattern, which will then be used to construct your garment. If you have also taken the Body Measurement class, you are strongly encouraged to bring the measurements you obtained in that class. Each student will walk away with a personally tailored shirt (it is built from your own measurements, after all) and a working knowledge of how to add knit fabrics to your textile repertoire.

As this is a custom garment, each student will want to bring the following:
  • 2 yards of knit, jersey or sweatshirt fabric of your choice

  • Basic thread in a corresponding color

  • 1/4 yard of ribbing (optional)

Prerequisite: TechShop Basic Sewing Machine SBU. If you haven't taken this class yet, sign up for the next available session here.
