ART107: Book Binding 2: Post Binding

Post binding is a very simple and versatile bookbinding technique that anyone can master. Best of all, no sewing is involved! Instead, the book cover and pages are attached using special bookbinding screw posts. The class begins with an overview of the post binding process and a brief presentation of the many types of books that can be created with this technique. Post binding is an especially great choice if you want to print and bind your own content (for example: family recipes, short stories you’ve written, an artist portfolio). The majority of the class will then focus on designing and creating your own custom book using binding board, book fabric, and decorative papers.

ART1243: Metal Clay Basics

Learn how to handle, model, fire and finish base metal (copper) clay to create jewelry and other small items.

Metal clay is a highly versatile jewelry and craft material that has improved dramatically in recent years. Tiny particles of metal such as bronze, copper and silver are suspended in an organic binder and worked like clay, then are dried and kiln-fired at high temperatures to become pure metal. In the second session, numerous techniques for cleaning, embellishing and finishing the fired pieces will be explored.

We suggest you come prepared for this class with some workable designs in mind suitable for small (approximately 1") fine metal objects.

This class has TWO SESSIONS at two hours each, for a total of four hours. Students who enroll in Day 1 of the class are also enrolling in the following class in the series. Class will be held at the same day and time the following week. Students who do not show up for BOTH sessions will not be passed for this class.

Basic materials will be provided (metal clay, basic tools, etc.)

Minimum age: 12

Supervision requirements: During class, all 12- to 15-year-old students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also enrolled in the class.
