LAS101: Laser Cutting and Etching SBU

Would you like to be able to cut intricate designs or engrave images at the press of a button? You can do it in minutes on wood, most plastics and paper with a laser cutter!

In this Safety and Basic Use (SBU) class, you will learn how to use TechShop's laser cutters to cut, etch and engrave designs in a variety of materials up to 24" x 18" by 3/8" thick, including plastics, woods, paper and cardboard, fabric, leather and even chocolate! Produce your wildest dreams with this widely applicable tool.



Some TechShop locations use Epilog lasers, and others use Trotec lasers. If you take the SBU for one brand, you will need to be trained before using the other brand.

Contact the front desk if you need more details on your local lasers cutter options.

Once you take and successfully pass this class, you can use this equipment for your projects whenever you work at TechShop as a member!

LAS201: Laser Engraver Rotary Attachment SBU

Want to etch wine glasses, bottles, flashlights, drumsticks and other cylindrical objects with your own images, text or logo?

Take this class and learn how to use laser cutter's rotary attachment. You'll learn to use the rotary attachment on the laser cutter/etcher that your local TechShop uses - either an Epilog or Trotech.

Class Prerequisite: You must complete and pass the TechShop Laser Cutting and Etching SBU class before taking this class.

Once you take and successfully pass this class, you can use this equipment for your projects whenever you work at TechShop as a member!

LAS205: Advanced Laser Cutting and Etching Techniques

Have you already passed the Laser Cutter Safety and Basic Use class and want to take your laser skills to the next level? How would you like to be better prepared and more efficient with your time on the laser?

In this class, we will build upon what you've already learned from your laser cutting experiences. You will learn how to quickly dial in the perfect settings for etching on any new material, set up complex jobs with multiple sets of settings, use color mapping and the powerful stamp and 3D modes for amazing effects. We will also cover how to use the print driver in ingenious ways. This class will open up your laser work to a whole new level of possibilities.

Your take-home class project will be a folding octahedron box.
