TechShop Named to Inc. 5000 for Third Year in a Row
TechShop ranks No. 1215 on the 2015 Inc. 5000 List of America’s Fastest Growing Private Companies
SAN JOSE, Calif. , August 13, 2015 --

TechShop, a membership-based, do-it-yourself workshop and fabrication studio, has been recognized by Inc. Magazine on its 34th annual Inc. 5000, an exclusive ranking of the nation's fastest-growing private companies for the third year in a row. In addition, TechShop was also recognized as a top fastest growing company in the San Jose Metro Area, ranking number 15 on the sub-list.

“For the past three years, TechShop’s been recognized for its continued growth, expansion, and impact by Inc. Magazine and the Inc. 500 | 5000 list,” said TechShop CEO Mark Hatch. “It’s a testament to the rise of makers and innovation among the nation’s entrepreneurs and we are honored to be a part of the movement. We look forward to continued expansion and success in the future.”

Recent growth milestones in TechShop’s business include:

  • Revenue growth of 345% within the past three years
  • Revenue in 2014 reached $12 million
  • Over 30% growth in new members
  • 10% increase in employees
  • Two new TechShop locations added in the US
  • First international TechShop locations announced

With locations across the United States, TechShop supports the growing community of makers and innovators in America by providing tools, equipment, software, and instruction in a large, open workshop space. TechShop members have use of flexible computer-aided manufacturing systems to build their skill set and produce tangible, custom products. Combining low unit costs of mass production processes with individual flexibility enables a tremendous increase in variety and customization without a corresponding increase in costs. This approach results in strategic advantage and economic value. TechShop also offers the community investment opportunities to take part in TechShops growth. Methodology
The 2015 Inc. 5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2011 to 2014. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2011. They had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2014. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2011 is $100,000; the minimum for 2014 is $2 million. As always, Inc. reserves the right to decline applicants for subjective reasons. Companies on the Inc. 500 are featured in Inc.'s September issue. They represent the top tier of the Inc. 5000, which can be found at http://www.inc.com/5000.

"The story of this year’s Inc. 5000 is the story of great leadership. In an incredibly competitive business landscape, it takes something extraordinary to take your company to the top,” says Inc. President and Editor-In-Chief Eric Schurenberg. “You have to remember that the average company on the Inc. 5000 grew nearly six-fold since 2012. Business owners don’t achieve that kind of success by accident."
