TechShop Participates in Inaugural National Maker Faire in DC
Commits to new learning opportunities nationwide that celebrate the maker spirit
SAN JOSE, Calif. , June 12, 2015 --

TechShop, Inc., the first and largest global makerspace chain and proud sponsor of the first National Maker Faire, will formally announce its commitment to help support the creation of 1,000 makerspaces over the next three years. TechShop will deliver on this commitment through The TechShop Makerspace Academy, a makerspace certification program that helps educators, librarians and others successfully host STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) programming via making.

The TechShop Makerspace Academy
TechShop developed The TechShop Makerspace Academy in response to the White House call to action to build more makerspaces nationwide. The Academy consists of a three-day intensive workshop that includes comprehensive, step-by-step courses. Its standardized curriculum is designed to help schools and libraries create, equip and run safe, inclusive and vibrant makerspaces based on the successful TechShop model. More information and registration for current sessions are available online.

“As a Gold Sponsor of National Maker Faire, we’re excited to take an active part in the momentum of the makerspace phenomenon by enabling makers and encouraging innovation at the national level,” said Jim Newton, TechShop founder. “The TechShop Makerspace Academy offers learning sessions and training programs for prospective makerspaces, providing the necessary tools, processes and procedures to build their dreams and drive innovation.”

National Maker Faire Events and Specials
At National Maker Faire, in conjunction with the White House “Week of Making,” TechShop CEO Mark Hatch will deliver a presentation on Saturday, June 13th, at 11AM EDT to discuss support for the creation of 1,000 new makerspaces, and examine how the maker phenomenon has inspired a nationwide trend of innovation and entrepreneurship among all ages.
