TechShop Transforms STEAM Education at Maker Faire 2015
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of Maker Faire festivities with learning experiences for all ages
SAN JOSE, Calif. , May 13, 2015 --

TechShop, Inc., a membership-based, do-it-yourself workshop and fabrication studio with locations nationwide, joins Maker Faire Bay Area the weekend of May 16-17 at the San Mateo Event Center to celebrate the biggest week of maker fever. TechShop will host a number of activities that include a presentation from TechShop CEO Mark Hatch on the rise of a maker nation and an up-close look at the mobile STEAM education unit, TechShop Inside!—Powered by Fujitsu.

“As proud sponsors of Maker Faire for the past 10 years, we’re excited to see the maker space grow in ways we could only dream of,” said Jim Newton, TechShop founder. “Makers were once considered tinkerers. But now, the builders, entrepreneurs and students who attend Maker Faire are driving its popularity to greater heights and helping the movement branch out to new fields of learning and innovation.”

Makers of all ages who attend the show this weekend will have the opportunity to tour TechShop Inside!—Powered by Fujitsu, the new 24-foot-long mobile makerspace already making appearances at schools and events around the Bay Area to promote STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) education. Attendees can also view unique mobile demos of TechShop’s popular building and prototyping technologies, such as mini 3D printers and Universal laser cutters.

To conclude the Faire, CEO Mark Hatch will deliver a presentation on Sunday, May 17th, from 4:30-5:30PM PT. Hatch will discuss how the phenomenon has taken off and how makers are inspiring an innovative and entrepreneurial trend nationwide—at all ages.

About Maker Faire
Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement. It's a place where people of all ages and backgrounds gather together to show what they are making and share what they are learning.

Maker Faire celebrated 131 Faires in 2014 alone and has reached over 2.3 million attendees globally since it launched in San Mateo, CA, in 2006, less than a year after the publication of the first Make: magazine in 2005. The ninth annual Maker Faire Bay Area welcomed some 1,100 Makers and 130,000 attendees. World Maker Faire New York, the other flagship event, has grown in five years to 830-plus Makers and 85,000 attendees. Atlanta, Detroit, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Orlando, Paris, Rome, Oslo, Newcastle (UK), Tokyo, Trondheim, Silver Spring and Shenzhen host our "featured" Maker Faires (200-plus makers), and community-driven, independently organized Mini Maker Faires inspire and ignite creative communities everywhere around the United States and internationally.

Located in San Francisco, CA, Maker Media has been widely credited with jumpstarting the worldwide Maker Movement, which has been a transforming force in innovation, culture, and education. In addition to publishing Make: magazine and producing Maker Faire, Maker Media develops "getting started" kits and books it sells through its Maker Shed store as well as other retail channels. Maker Media is based in San Francisco and has offices in Sebastopol, CA and at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.
