SAN JOSE, Calif.
, August 20, 2014 --
TechShop, a membership-based, do-it-yourself workshop and fabrication studio, has been recognized by Inc. Magazine as one of America’s fastest growing private companies. TechShop is ranked No. 611 on the seventh annual Inc. 500 | 5000 list.
Inc. Magazine recognized TechShop’s three-year revenue growth of 778 percent, as well as the company’s independent entrepreneurial spirit. Inc. Magazine also highlighted TechShop on its 2014 Inc. 500 | 5000 lists of Top Manufacturing Companies and Top Companies in the San Jose Metro Area, ranking No. 12 and No. 11, respectively.
“TechShop’s inclusion in the Inc. 500 | 5000 list for a second year in a row is a testament to the Maker spirit in the United States,” said Mark Hatch, CEO of TechShop. “We are honored to be included and are thrilled to continue to grow alongside the Maker Movement, inspiring and enabling innovation among the nation’s entrepreneurs.”
"What surprises me, even though I know it’s coming, is the sheer variety of the paths our entrepreneurs take to success, thematically reflecting how our economy has evolved,” says Inc. President and Editor-In-Chief Eric Schurenberg. “This year there are far more social media and far fewer computer hardware businesses than there were, say, six years ago. But what doesn’t change is the fearsome creativity unleashed by American entrepreneurship.”
With locations across the United States, TechShop supports the growing community of makers and innovators in America by providing tools, equipment, software and instruction in a large, open workshop space. TechShop members have use of flexible computer-aided manufacturing systems to build their skill set and produce tangible, custom products. Combining low unit costs of mass production processes with individual flexibility enables a tremendous increase in variety and customization without a corresponding increase in costs. This approach results in strategic advantage and economic value.
