|TechShop to Open in San Francisco's Mid-Market District|
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.

TechShop, Inc. of Menlo Park, CA has agreed to lease a former SF Chronicle building, the first steps in a broader plan to create what the project developer and the City of San Francisco are calling an "innovation incubation hub" in the Mid-Market district.
Modeled after the successful TechShop facility in Menlo Park, California, which currently has over 600 active members, the future 15,500-square-foot TechShop facility will be located near 5th and Howard Streets and will feature a wide variety of tools and equipment including laser cutters, CNC milling machines, welders, woodworking equipment, automotive tools and equipment, milling machines and lathes, sheet metal equipment, sewing equipment, plastics equipment, 3D printers and 3D scanners, workstations with high-end design software, electronics, hacker space and coworking space, private offices, classrooms, common workshop areas, and much more. Anyone will be able to make use of the space and equipment for around $100 per month.
Hearst Corp., owner of The Chronicle, announced in early 2008 that it had struck a deal with Forest City Enterprises Inc. of Cleveland to explore development scenarios for the newspaper's headquarters and adjacent parcels. San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom said about the project "A hub for San Francisco's world-class technology and arts communities will result in social and economic benefits for the city."About TechShop, Inc.
