TechShop announced today that it has reached agreements with eight partner groups to open ten new TechShop locations in six states by the middle of 2008.
"The mission of TechShop has always been to enable people with access to tools, equipment, and a community of like-minded creative people," said TechShop's founder Jim Newton, "We will really further our mission with these ten additional TechShop locations with the help of our great partners in each city."
The cities selected for the first ten TechShop locations include San Francisco CA, Sunnyvale CA, Sacramento CA, Los Angeles CA, San Diego CA, Portland OR, Seattle WA, Austin TX, Orlando FL, and Durham NC.
TechShop's original location in Menlo Park CA has been in operation for just over a year, and has already enabled over a thousand customers with classes and workshop access.
TechShop is an open-access public workshop for people who like to work with their hands with metals, plastics, wood and electronics but do not have access to a shop or equipment. TechShop offers daily, monthly, and annual memberships to its large workshop, tools and equipment including milling machines, lathes, sheet metal equipment, welding stations, Epilog laser cutters, a Dimension 3D printer, plastics and woodworking equipment, and an electronics lab. TechShop also offers a wide range of classes for all ages and skill levels.
