WKS710: Chair Making Workshop 2: Material Preparation

The second session will begin the fabrication process using the standard chair design as an example of the steps required. It will start with a discussion and illustration of laying out the parts in the stock to use the grain of the wood to advantage. Stock will then be cut to rough length, joined on one face and one edge, thickness planed, ripped to size and cut to final length. Parts will be rough sanded.

Homework assignment: Students will prepare their material for the next session.

Workshop Session 3 - Mortise and Tenons. Prerequisites: CNC302: CNC ShopBot SBU

Workshop Session 4 - Finishing and Assembly
