MTL301: Ironworker and Bender SBU
Class Number 640-29159
In this class, you will learn how to use the Edwards Ironworker. The ironworker is a multi-function tool that is capable of punching, shearing and notching most metals. It specializes in working thick material, and is capable of shearing 5/8" thick steel. The advantage of the Ironworker is speed and capacity. Punching a 1" hole in 1/2" steel takes just a few seconds, while drilling it would take much longer and several drill bit changes.
The basic functions include shearing steel plate, (up to 5/8" thick), hole punching (up to 1 1/6" diameter in 5/8" thick steel), notching, shearing angle iron (up to 1/4" x 4" x 4") and round stock. TechShop has a selection of dies for punching round holes of various sizes.
Additionally, you will learn to use the tube bender, for round and square tube. Tube dies range in size from 1/2" to over 1 1/2" - see your local TechShop for exact specifications and selection of dies. You'll be able to bend tube to exact angles, and eliminate the need to cut and weld corners of your projects.
After taking this class, you will be cleared to use both the Ironworker and bender.
Expand your metal working skill set and incorporate this versatile machine into your TechShop projects.
