Learn to safely use the lathe to make wooden parts in this Safety and Basic Use (SBU) class. Discover how to set up the lathe, prepare raw materials, and use different wood turning tools. Spin circles around the shop with the new skills acquired in this class!

Project: Turn a wooden spindle

Prerequisites: WOD101: Woodshop - SBU recommended but not required

Equipment access: Wood lathe

Minimum age: 16

Supervision requirements: None

Safety

  • Mandatory: Closed-toed shoes, eye protection, short sleeves, face shield

  • Advisable: Hearing protection, particle filter, or dust mask
