WKS727: Leatherworking Basics - Creating a Leather Key Fob
Class Number 1039-53329
In this workshop, you’ll learn fundamental skills for working with leather, and walk away with a keychain fob that you made yourself!
We’ll cover everything from pattern tracing and leather cutting, to embossing designs using traditional tools. There will be 8 designs to choose from, all of which will give you practice using a wide range of leather tooling techniques. While yes, in this workshop we’ll be making something cool, a lot of emphasis will be put on practicing technique with some of the more specialized leather crafting tools. Swivel knife and stamping tools in particular are the focus of tools that you’ll be practicing with.
At the end of this workshop, you’ll have experience with pattern transferring, swivel knife work, how to properly case leather for tooling, tooling (stamping) designs, edge finishing and dressing, hardware setting and care of tools. Please bring a USB key if you’d like an .svg file of all the patterns offered in the class, and the swivel knife practice worksheets.
Prerequisites: None, but you should be comfortable with the laser cutters and the wood shop tools.
