About the Presentations
Al Morrison, Eco-Friendly Eyewear: Founder of Wood Ya Eyewear, a company dedicated to the development and manufacturing of eco-friendly eyewear that floats. Each pair of sunglasses is constructed from 100% reclaimed lumber, which Al mills and dries on his property in Pennsylvania. The sunglasses are then manufactured in his shop in Michigan. Al will present on how he came up with this idea, his current manufacturing process, and some of the cutting edge materials and manufacturing steps he plans to incorporate in the future.
Brad Jensen, WikiHouse, Shelter Project 2.0: Founder of WikiHouseDET and built a WikiHouse demonstration for the 2013 Detroit Design Festival. WikiHouse is an open source construction set with the aim to allow anyone to design, download and "print" CNC-milled houses and components. Brad will present this year’s project, the Shelter 2.0, a CNC-milled disaster relief shelter that will be built and is planned for a disaster relief display at the 2014 Detroit Maker Faire. Brad will talk about opportunities for the TechShop community to get involved and some upcoming training classes that will be available to vets and non-vets alike.
