|TechShop holds town hall meeting with Cortex to discuss investment opportunities available in TechShop St. Louis|
SAN JOSE, Calif.
, April 23, 2014 --
TechShop, a membership-based, do-it-yourself workshop and fabrication studio with locations nationwide, will be hosting a town hall-style meeting with CORTEX (Center of Research, Technology and Entrepreneurial Exchange) on Saturday, April 26 at Cortex 1 Building (4320 Forest Park Ave) from 10AM to noon. Dan Woods, COO of TechShop and co-founder of MAKE Magazine and Maker Faire, will be discussing investment opportunities and the community impact TechShop could have in St. Louis.
“When we launched our nationwide ‘Bring TechShop to Your City’ campaign last September, we received immediate interest from the St. Louis community,” said Woods. “Our model is based on partnering with universities, academic institutions, companies, corporations, local government and individuals. This meeting is an opportunity for all of those constituents to show their commitment and rally the support we need to bring TechShop to the makers and innovators of this area.”
TechShop brings together and cultivates a highly creative, collaborative group of makers, tinkerers, students, academics and entrepreneurs who share ideas, create new products, businesses and jobs, and learn new skills. Opening a new TechShop facility requires significant capital to renovate a suitable location and to acquire equipment and tools. At the town hall meeting, TechShop will be available to answer questions and provide additional information about plans and next steps for a potential St. Louis location. To RSVP, please go to https://www.eventbrite.com/
To bring TechShop to the Missouri city, the company will seek to secure $3 million in funding through individual, corporate and institutional investments, as well as 1,000 pre-commitments for memberships from local supporters. VisitTechShop’s St. Louis page (http://invest.techshop.
