Jim Newton, Chairman and Founder
Jim is an uber-DIYer and lifelong maker. A serial entrepreneur, Jim holds several design patents and created TechShop because he needed a place to build his own inventions. Before founding TechShop Jim was a BattleBots competitor and former full-time Science Advisor on the Discovery Channel's hit show "MythBusters." Jim spends much of his time on-site at TechShop, and thoroughly enjoys helping TechShop members with their projects. He also enjoys baking sourdough bread, camping with his family, and dreaming up new project ideas. Mark Hatch, Chief Executive Officer
During Mark's first two years on the management team, TechShop tripled revenue and memberships and became a leading brand in the emergent "Maker-Space" business. Before coming to TechShop in October of 2007, Mark was the president of GL Services, a Business Process Outsourcing company, where he doubled the number of companies served by strategically launching new service offerings. Mark also served in management roles at Avery Dennison and Kinko's. He has his BA in economics from UC Irvine, an MBA from the Drucker School at Claremont Graduate University, and is a former Green Beret.
David Ehrenberg, Chief Financial Officer (Contract via Early Growth Financial Services)
David is an experienced financial executive who has been building high growth, emerging technology companies including Microsoft, Extreme Networks, Radiant Research and Abound Logic for the past 15 years. His financial expertise is in venture funding, debt financing, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic planning, and has operational expertise in accounting, human resources, legal and corporate governance, facilities, information technology and administrative functions. Prior to founding Early Growth Financial Services, David worked at several successful companies including Voice Stream. He has also worked on Wall Street merge rs and acquisitions. He completed undergraduate studies at Georgetown University, has an MBA from the University of Washington, and is a CPA. Dan Woods, Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Business Development
Dan drives TechShop's operations, product and service strategies, and is responsible for business development and sales programs. Before joining the team, he spent nine years at O'Reilly Media and was the co-founder of MAKE Magazine, which focuses on how-to pr objects for makers. In this role, Dan oversaw marketing, media relations, circulation development, community outreach and sales for the magazine. He helped establish MAKE as the premier media group and voice of the DIY market. He also conceived and launched the Maker Shed store, growing it to one of MAKE's most important assets. Dan has a BS in Aeronautics from San Jose State University and studied business administration at Santa Clara University's Graduate School of Business.
