Do you love cars and miss the days when you could tinker with your car on the weekend? Are you curious about what new technologies are on the horizon in the automotive industry and how you can extend your current vehicle? Ford Motor Company invites you to a workshop to discover how makers, software developers, and DIY enthusiasts can interact with current Ford vehicles, particularly new electric vehicles.
The majority of cars built since the beginning of the century are full of electronics and software. What if there was a platform designed from the ground up to be open source and to give access to the data in these vehicle systems? Ford Motor Company developed OpenXC, a research platform to support software and hardware extensions for vehicles both new and old. In this workshop we will introduce OpenXC and illustrate how to create applications and hardware modules to extend the functionality of your car.
We will also be showcasing Ford's new 2012 Focus Electric and discussing the endless possibilities of electrification. We want to know what information YOU want from the vehicle and how you want to be able to modify its runtime behavior. Imagine a world where you could safely program your car to fit your needs and wants!
